OVERVIEW

The Industrial Designer will play a key role in designing innovative and functional building products for new and existing product lines across all Fortress Building Products. Additionally, you will contribute to the success of our trade shows by supporting the design and execution of our exhibits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and iterate product concepts considering user needs, functionality, aesthetics, market trends, and compliance with codes and industry standards (e.g. IBC, IRC, ASTM).
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Consider user experience (UX) throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize designs for manufacturability (DFM) within cost and production constraints.
  • Create high-quality renderings and prototypes to communicate design intent and facilitate stakeholder feedback.
  • Support product testing as needed (beta installations).
  • Manage assigned projects within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Write and produce clear and concise installation instructions for building products.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing project assignments as needed.
  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and sales teams to develop, design, and construct trade show exhibits.
  • Assist with booth setup and breakdown at trade shows.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director, Innovation & Engineering.

Education/Experience/Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as an industrial designer.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and CorelDraw.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials and processes.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent writing skills for crafting clear and concise installation instructions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work on several projects simultaneously.
